How This Works

Skip sizes in the UK are measured in cubic yards: 2-yard (small), 4-yard (mini skip — most common for kitchens/bathrooms), 6-yard (midi — gardens), 8-yard (builder skip — most common), 10–12 yard (large). Prices vary significantly by region — London typically 40–60% more than the Midlands or North.

Skip hire companies refuse: asbestos (requires specialist removal), tyres, electrical items (fridges, TVs), batteries, hazardous chemicals, paint (wet), medical waste and fluorescent tubes. Plasterboard/gypsum is often refused or charged extra (requires separate disposal). Soil, rubble and concrete are accepted but add significant weight — check the weight limit on your skip hire contract. Overloaded skips cannot be collected by law.
