How This Works

Render coverage depends on mix type and coat thickness. Sand & cement: 12kg/m² at 10mm depth per coat. Monocouche (single-coat through-colour render): 15–18kg/m². Lime render: slower setting, more forgiving, used on older properties to allow moisture movement. Silicone/acrylic finish coat: thin coat at 3–5kg/m² over a scratch coat.

Sometimes — but only if the existing render is sound, well-adhered and not cracked. Tap across the surface with your knuckles: hollow sounds indicate delaminated render that must be removed. Applying new render over loose render will fail. If removing, check for original substrate — old brick or stone may need different render specification. Never apply cement render directly to an old lime render substrate — use like-for-like materials to allow similar movement characteristics.
