How This Works
Sheet count = total area ÷ sheet area × 1.10 (wastage). Standard plasterboard is 2400×1200mm (2.88m²). For walls: perimeter × height minus door/window openings. For ceilings: room area. Stagger horizontal joints so they don't align across the room — this prevents cracking.
12.5mm is standard for most domestic walls and ceilings. 15mm is used where fire resistance is required (garages, under stairs, around boiler cupboards). 9.5mm lightweight board for ceilings with limited structural support. 25mm acoustic board between rooms for sound reduction. Always check building regulations for fire compartmentation requirements, especially between garage and habitable rooms.
